Secretary General: transatlantic bond is vital for Europe and North America
NATO Foreign Ministers had talks on Friday (31 March 2017) about fairer burden sharing in the Alliance, NATO’s response to terrorism and its united approach to Russia. After the meeting at NATO Headquarters, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted how the Alliance has made progress on defence spending, with a 10 billion dollar rise in defence spending among European Allies and Canada last year. Mr Stoltenberg said Allies must keep up the momentum on defence spending and that one option being looked at is national plans for Allies to reach the NATO goal of spending 2% of GDP on defence.

Brexit: MEPs set out conditions for approving UK withdrawal agreement

The Conference of Presidents endorsed a motion for a resolution drawn up by the leaders of four political groups and the Constitutional Affairs Committee, in which they set out their conditions for a final approval by the European Parliament of any withdrawal agreement with the United Kingdom. The draft resolution will be debated and voted on by the full house next Wednesday.

NATO and Japan provide Ukraine with rehabilitation pool for wounded soldiers
On Friday (31 March 2017), NATO, in collaboration with Japan, officially opened a new rehabilitation pool at the Ukrainian Research Institute for Prosthesis Design, Prosthetic Building and Work Ability Rehabilitation in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The pool will assist Ukraine in improving its rehabilitation service for wounded and disabled servicemen and civilians. The delivery of the pool also marks the success of the first programme of NATO and Japanese cooperation in Ukraine.
